Data Protection Book Club: Review of the EDPB’s Draft DPIA Template

In this book club meeting, we’ll review the EDPB’s draft DPIA template published on 23 April 2026 which is now open for public consultation.
We’ll walk through what’s new in the template and compare it to the ICO’s DPIA approach. We’ll share our views on where the template is genuinely helpful and where we think it might just create more paperwork!
We’ll discuss how we approach DPIAs in practice, including mixing and matching elements from different templates to build assessments that are workable, proportionate, and defensible.
We will also touch on AI impact assessments, so we can think through where they overlap with DPIAs and how we work to avoid duplication.
As always, you don’t have to have read the document to come along to the session, and as always we really value your contributions in book club, all of which will be shared under Chatham House rules.
